Over the last decade, the Martin Trust Partnership in Education for Early Learners saw the Early Education sector facing a crisis in quality and access, and a system driven primarily by the need to get parents, particularly women, back to work after having children. The societal need for “early childcare” is well documented, but the approach to Early Education, exacerbated by the pandemic, remains motivated first and foremost by finding a solution to a workforce problem.
Influenced by the principles of MIT faculty member, Hal Gregerson, who encourages looking to answer complex issues by reframing the question, we asked:
What if Early Education for children ages 3 to 5 years old was created, funded, resourced, implemented and executed based entirely on how children learn best?
Established in 2021, Trust Early Learners seeks to answer that question. By partnering with private and public leaders in the education, business and philanthropic sectors, Trust Early Learners focuses on delivering excellence in education to our youngest learners.
We believe formal education should begin at age 3. This is a critical time for growth — from adaptive, cognitive, and executive functioning to language, physical and social development.
We also believe teachers are the foundation of a high-quality, sustainable, early education system in America. We invest in Early Educators, with a focus on developing a generation of highly-valued teachers with the resources and professional training needed to support our young learners.
Little Learners. Big Beliefs.
