Changing lives and closing the achievement gap through quality Early Education.
Early Education is key to creating equity for children and to closing the achievement gap before it is created. A QUALITY education that focuses on two of the greatest predictors of later academic success — social and emotional competency and the ability to organize around a task — makes an immeasurable difference in the lives of children, families, and communities. If children can enter kindergarten as confident, competent learners, they are more likely to access their highest academic potential and to succeed in life.
At the Martin Trust Partnership in Education for Early Learners, we have created a model of Early Education where educators are highly respected professionals, and young children are provided a program filled with literacy, arts, and STEM learning to help them gain the ability to persist and succeed throughout their academic lives.
Trust Early Learners is a full school-day program for children ages 3 to 5.
It is one of our big beliefs that all children should begin school at the age of 3.
Learners with a wide range of strengths and needs benefit from the structure and environment of the program we use called Global Early Education. Global provides a foundational understanding of literacy and numeracy through developmentally appropriate play-based experiences.
Think about the most successful adults you know – they are likely to be quite competent socially with excellent executive functioning skills. They get things done in an efficient way.
In schools today, too much emphasis is placed on discreet skills such as reading proficiency for 5- and 6-year-olds. Children can learn to read in the 2nd grade and still perform well throughout their lives, but those who lack basic executive and organizational skills, and who are unable to successfully engage socially with peers and adults, are more likely to struggle.
By embedding the pedagogy utilized in the Global Program, any learning setting — from family and community childcare centers to public and private Early Education programs, can become even more effective learning environments. TEL is committed to partnering with organizations to improve quality and access for all young learners.
At Trust Early Learners, the most vulnerable students in our community – low income, homeless or those living in public housing — attend for free. Working families are provided abatements to access the program. It is our goal to help create and provide the most diverse, effective and accessible Early Education for all children.
