THE ART OF LEARNING

Our Makerspace is a fun, creative, interactive and intentionally-designed area where children learn about art and artists from around the world. Students are exposed to a wide variety of styles and mediums throughout the year, which helps them understand the importance of art and how creative expression impacts our daily lives.

The Makerspace is not just about art projects. By developing their inner artists, with the guidance of engaged educators, children learn to organize around a task, build gross and fine motor skills, and strengthen social and emotional connections. While in the Makerspace, children’s learning is supported by integrating the themes, content, and goals from the classrooms. The Makerspace emphasizes creativity and free-thinking — essential elements for success as children advance in school, and in life. Students are encouraged to explore and reflect through their art.

As they become more skilled as artists, students acquire self-confidence and display positive emotions and feelings, which helps them perform better across all disciplines. Tools and materials are adapted for any need so all can participate, express themselves without barriers, and develop their own sense of self as artists.
